Complimentary Meet and Greet

First, we'll set up a complimentary in-home visit.  It's important that you, your pet, and I meet and interact, so we get to know each other, and then you can fill me in on things like:

í Details and instructions about your pet's daily activities, needs, vet information, favorite toys, and personality.

í Contact information for you on your trip.

í Information about your home -- how things work, where things are, key arrangements, who you notify when you're out of town, etc.

And, we can also tend to administrative concerns like:

í Obtaining a Veterinary Release Signature.  Plain and simple -- I'm authorized, you'll pay!

This rolls as it rolls, as we get to know each other, but please allow at least 30 minutes for your Meet and Greet.

Excitement Factor Expectation Management: I love to make a big deal out of meeting your pets... by telling you how much I like your pet, but not necessarily by showing your pets when I meet them! As a care-giving visitor, the best way to build a relationship with a pet is not so much based on how cute I think they are, and by "getting in their face," but on the terms they understand. When I enter a household to meet your pet, I remain calm assertive, so I just calmly meet and interact with your pet on terms that establish the relationship.  I want your pet to feel comfortable with me.  And, with dogs, especially, I need to enter the household as a pack leader.  And, cats are cats and everything is on their terms, anyway, so if your cat isn't interested in me -- nothing personal!  And, cats have to check you out, decide you're okay, and mark you as theirs. (For my cat Murphy, she sniffed and rubbed her chin on you and that meant you were okay and may pet her... and you were her person.) So, I let your pets check me out, greet me or not, and we'll interact as things progress, but I don't plan on building up any leaping around, barking, meowing excitement. (That is the greeting you'll get, when you come home!)

Fish Factor Note: NorthStar Pet provides services for warm-blooded, indoor-only pets, but if you have fish, too, we'll talk!

Pet Sitters and Pet Facts

Before we even talk, know this: The Complimentary Meet and Greet is for the benefit of both You, the potential client, and NorthStar Pet Services.  NorthStar Pet Services reserves the right to refuse a client if a pet is exotic, seriously ill, or aggressive; in these circumstances, you’ll require a more specialized type of professional care.

If, for any reason, the pet environment is not in the best interest of the pet, NorthStar Pet Services doesn't hesitate to communicate with the appropriate animal protection and advocacy resources.
